Creative Writing Pedagogy in the Accelerated Composition Classroom | Amy K. Drees & Melanie Dusseau
This will be an interactive colloquium for faculty interested in creative experimentation in their emerging or established accelerated developmental writing program. Presenters will share data from a successful pilot to implementation to pilot transition for a fully co-requisite, credit bearing first-year writing program, and explore an engaged learning environment, which fuses creative writing pedagogy with the non-cognitive aspects of the co-requisite writing curriculum. Creativity connects to the achievement of the goals we have for our ALP students: access, support, retention, and the courage to accelerate toward their dreams. This presentation will explore how and why the co-requisite writing classroom, when infused with the same collaborative spirit as a creative writing workshop, is driven by a creative energy that invites students and faculty to create better futures.
