Reading instruction is often a part of co-requisite courses, but a recent study from North Central Michigan College found that metacognitive reading strategies, in addition to modeling, help improve students’ skill and confidence—even with the challenging texts in a writing-about-writing curriculum. This session will consider that study and review the CCCC position statement released in March on the role of reading in college writing classrooms. Participants will come away with ready-to-use reading activities for corequisite courses.
