Think It. Do It. Defend It: A New Model for AI-Era Assessment

Thursday, October 16 at 12pm ET

This is a free event, but seats may be limited.

In an era where generative AI can produce polished outputs in seconds, relying on traditional assessments alone makes it difficult to evaluate true student understanding. Many educators are responding to this reality by shifting their assessment of student learning from 'final products' like exams and essays to evaluating the process of students' thinking, doing, and defending their work. This webinar introduces a practical model for designing AI-resistant assessments that center on process, originality, higher-order critical thinking, and reflection.

This webinar provides practical examples of how to apply a 'Think It. Do It. Defend It' across humanities, social sciences, and STEM with real-world examples that encourage deeper learning and discourage shortcuts. Attendees will walk away with suggestions for logistical concerns like grading at scale, as well as tools and strategies for efficient feedback without sacrificing rigor.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Reimagine assignments to highlight student thinking, problem-solving, and justification
  • Incorporate stages of work submission to deter one-step AI-generated answers
  • Design authentic assessments tailored to your discipline
  • Balance instructional goals with grading realities using scalable rubrics and peer review

This is a call to reinvent assessments in a way that students won't want to outsource what matters most (how they think and learn) to AI.
