Shevaun Watson, Writing Program Administrator (WPA) at the University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee, wanted a way to engage her students in a few key concepts for writing and research and she needed a way to systematize the teaching of that information for all her colleagues. She developed a series of Active Instructional Modules that require students to read, think critically, interact, and respond on topics such as the information cycle, rhetorial situation, stakeholders, and and citation chasing.
