The Institute at Macmillan Learning FAQs

Have questions about Macmillan Learning’s new professional development institute or the Teaching With Generative AI course? We have answers. Below you’ll find answers to frequently asked questions about the Institute and course.

1. What is the cost associated with participation in The Institute's professional development program?
The early bird price is $99 (regular course fee is $249).

2. When does enrollment begin?
Enrollment begins April 15th, 2024.

3. When does enrollment end?
Enrollment for this course will close at 11:59 p.m. PT on May 31, 2024. Should the course reach maximum seat capacity before May 31st, enrollment will close automatically.

4. Can I obtain a receipt so that I can be reimbursed by my institution for enrollment costs?
Yes, you will receive a confirmation of purchase email, which can serve as a receipt, at the time that you enroll.

5. What is the start date?
The course begins on May 13th, 2024.

6. What is the duration of the program?
The course is eight weeks long, beginning May 13th and ending July 3rd.

7. Will there be other opportunities to enroll later in the year?
“Teaching with Generative AI: A Course for Educators” is slated to be held multiple times throughout the year. Future dates are TBD. Please submit other ideas for courses you’d like to see by completing this form.

8. Will the sessions be conducted live, synchronously, asynchronously, or through a combination of these methods?
Course content will be available asynchronously for you to read and review on your own time; there will also be synchronous sessions with your course facilitator and peer educators up to four times in the eight-week program. Once you enroll, you will complete a form to help the Macmillan Learning team identify the best meeting times for participants.

9. How many students are in each cohort?
To ensure that Institute participants are able to receive the benefit of facilitator and accountability community support, we aim to limit each cohort to 50 people.

10. Which platform will be utilized for delivering the content of the Institute's professional development program?
The Teaching With Generative AI course will be delivered in Macmillan Learning's courseware platform, Achieve.

11. During what hours will the program's sessions be scheduled? Are there evening hours required?
The asynchronous work can be done at your convenience. The synchronous sessions will be scheduled during daytime working hours and will be decided on once all intake forms are complete.

12. What does early enrollment mean?
For Spring 2024, participants will be offered a special one-time offer of a $99 enrollment fee. We value your feedback and want to hear your thoughts on the course content, platform, and timeline. In exchange for your participation and feedback, we are offering the course at a significant discount for this time period.

13. Which topics will be covered by the program?
The program will cover topics like developing a course policy around AI, designing assignments with considerations for AI, and navigating conversations with students about the use of AI.

14. What will I get out of enrollment in the program?
Participants in “Teaching with Generative AI: A Course for Educators” will have the opportunity to enhance their network, gain a deeper expertise in Artificial Intelligence, and enrich their understanding of how AI can be applied within higher education as a supportive tool

15. Will a certificate of completion be provided at the end of the course?
Yes, participants who successfully complete the course will receive a digital badge or certificate that can easily be shared with your institution as well as your colleagues on LinkedIn.

17. How can I enroll in the course?
  • Go to achieve.macmillanlearning.com (or this page if you are in Canada).
  • Click “I Need to Enroll in a Course”

  • Complete your purchase by following the on-screen prompts.

18. What course ID do I use to enroll in the Teaching with AI course?
The course code for the Teaching with Generative AI course that begins on May 13, 2024: fr8224

19. Why am I getting a message that I cannot enroll as an instructor?
While you may be an educator/instructor, you are a student in the Teaching with Generative AI Institute course and will not have instructor access to the course.

Once you have enrolled in the course, you may have questions specifically related to the course and its functionality. Please review the questions below for answers to your most frequently asked questions.

20. What can I expect from the course experience?
Spanning eight weeks, the Teaching with Generative AI course offers practical strategies to incorporate generative AI into educators’ professional practice.

Asynchronous instruction and course resources will be delivered via the Achieve course platform. Discussion and submission prompts are linked in Achieve and will take participants directly to a dedicated and private Community forum where they will share their work and progress with their peers in the course.

Beyond the course content, an experienced facilitator will guide participants’ learning journey, along with smaller accountability groups providing support and feedback while working through the course activities.

21. When are the synchronous sessions scheduled?
Dates for synchronous sessions will be determined based on cohort members’ availability. Once enrolled in the course, Institute members will be asked to complete an intake form that will provide information to help us determine the best days and times to hold synchronous sessions. Synchronous sessions will be scheduled no later than May 1, 2024, so please complete your intake form as soon as possible to influence the schedule.

22. Will synchronous sessions be recorded and shared if I cannot attend?
Yes, session recordings, slides, and worksheets will be available on the Community site.


23. Will the sessions be conducted live, synchronously, asynchronously, or through a combination of these methods?
Course content will be available asynchronously for you to read and review on your own time; there will also be synchronous sessions with your course facilitator and peer educators up to four times in the eight-week program.
