Lisa Blue
Instructional Specialist, STEM-H Teaching & Learning , Eastern Kentucky University
Dr. Lisa Blue is an Instructional Specialist focused on STEM-H Teaching & Learning in the Faculty Center for Teaching & Learning at Eastern Kentucky University. A St. Louis native, Dr. Blue holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemistry from Missouri State University and a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from the University of Kentucky. Dr. Blue left a postdoctoral position in the Department of Energy, Environmental, and Chemical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis to join a Lexington start-up, Covalent Research Technologies, as the Director of Research and Development where she worked with industry partners to capture mercury, arsenic, and problematic heavy metals from industrial and mining wastewater effluents.
While at Covalent, Dr. Blue returned to teaching part-time as an outlet to share her passion for understanding our natural world. When the start-up company was shuttered in 2012, Dr. Blue joined the University of Kentucky full-time where she taught large General Chemistry lecture courses while supervising the work of graduate students staffing the department’s General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry Learning Centers. In 2021, Dr. Blue joined EKU as the Associate Director of the Center for STEM Excellence before transitioning to her current role in 2023.
Tim Klein
Co-Founder of How to Navigate Life and author of How To Navigate Life: The New Science of Finding Your Way In School, Career & Life, Medford High School
Tim Klein, LCSW is an award-winning urban educator, clinical therapist, former teaching fellow at Harvard University and lecturer at Boston College. Throughout his career, he's worked intensively with marginalized students to empower them to pursue meaningful and fulfilling lives. Prior to his work at Boston College, he helped launch Stanford University’s Project Wayfinder, where he trained educators from over 30 states and 12 different countries.
As the Director of School and Community Engagement at Medford High School he implemented strategies that increased college matriculation by 30%. Prior to that, he spent five years as the Outreach Director for Summer Search, a national youth development non-profit serving historically underrepresented student populations. His work has been featured in EdSurge, Greater Good Magazine, The Los Angeles Times and KCRW.
Vaughn Scribner
Associate Professor of History, University of Central Arkansas
Dr. Vaughn Scribner is an Associate Professor of History at the University of Central Arkansas. Dr. Scribner’s research investigates early American history in a global context, specifically striving to understand how early modern Britons sought to define (and redefine) their positions in the empire.
Dr. Scribner believes that teaching and research are inherently connected pursuits, and uses his diverse research interests to offer courses on colonial America, revolutionary America, the Atlantic slave trade, the early modern Atlantic world, and the methods course. He is also passionate about public outreach and service. Dr. Scribner is a Macmillan Learning Peer Consultant and uses Achieve Read & Practice with many of his students.
